If you do use the template, you still need a working knowledge of how to format in Word. It took me a day to get my book the way I wanted and when I uploaded it to KDP using the formatted Word document, it made a beautiful book that I liked and an mobi file that had no issues. Just check your chapter titles, gutters and headers before finalizing them. They aren't that difficult to use and you can add and delete things from them. If you are using y getting a template you like from Joel Friedlander of BookDesignTemplates. I found Calibre a hit or miss on two of my books.
